Newborn Baby Session

NEWBORN PORTRAIT SESSIONS

Newborn sessions are best held when baby is between 5 and 10 days old while they’re still so sleepy and curly so that we can get those amazing newborn baby pictures.  Newborn sessions occurring past this time are still very successful although baby is likely to be a little more alert.

If baby is already here, it’s ok.  If your little one is outside of the preferred range for a newborn session it’s certainly not too late.   The key is to keep the studio very warm and baby very full – then we just wait for him or her to fall into a deep sleep.  My schedule can sometime permit a last minute session so just give me a shout if baby’s already here and I’ll let you know when I have availability.   Most baby photographers agree that it’s never too late to capture these first beautiful moments of your child’s life.

PRICING

The session fee of $125 includes pre-session consultation, a full-length (traditional) newborn session and retouching of approximately 25 images from which you choose.  Print and digital image collections are offered.  Digital collections begin at $385. Please contact me for full collection pricing.

SESSION DETAILS

Traditional newborn sessions allow plenty of time for nursing, soothing and allowing baby to fall into a deep sleep so we can get a wide variety of amazing newborn images.  Your session can last as long as 3 hours – not that we would be shooting that long but we schedule that much time so that we don’t have a timeline to worry about.  My style is laid-back and very relaxed and I do all of the posing and handling of your little one while you rest nearby on the sofa.  The studio is extra warm for your newborn session and I’ll have white noise running for a soothing experience for baby.

My studio has all of the blankets, wraps, props and little outfits that you would need for a session so if you arrived for your session with just baby and diapers it would be perfectly fine.  You are welcome and encouraged to bring anything from home to further personalize the session.

WORRIED BABY WILL BE FUSSY?

It happens from time to time.   It’s completely normal to worry that baby won’t sleep or will be having a fussy day.  A lot of moms have voiced this worry, and who wants to display a very unhappy baby’s image as their only professional portrait of this fleeting time? If for some reason baby is overly fussy and it becomes obvious that we’re not going to get the breathtaking images that we had hoped for, it’s ok.   We simply reschedule your session for a weeknight the following week.  This is what I refer to as the Take 2 Approach to photographing babies and small children.    Note:  Take 2 sessions are offered at studio discretion only.

BOOKING

Newborn sessions are held on weekdays which allows for the scheduling flexibility on my end to accommodate newborn sessions.  We would pencil in a tentative session date approximately  one week from your due date.  For example – with a November 16th due date we would tentatively schedule your session for the morning of November 23rd.  Since your little one most likely won’t be born on his or her exact date we’ll change the date as needed keeping it to a weekday.
