When Teleicia and Daivy found out they were expecting a child, the first things that ran through their minds were pure joy and nervousness. From there they started a long journey of prayer and worry – they spend countless nights discussing their hopes and dreams for their son.
On April 3rd, Teleicia gave birth to a beautiful baby boy named Clay. “I think we were too overwhelmed to have a coherent thought, just pure love,” explained Teleicia about the first time she saw her baby. “We had prayed for this child for so long, and he truly was perfect.” Clay was born via cesarean section so Teleicia’s first look at her son was while he was in the arms of her husband, Daivy – this image brought her to tears.
Luckily, her mother Betty Rose made it from Detroit to Philadelphia just in time for the birth of her grandson. It seems that Clay waited just long enough for his “MiMi” to arrive.
Like most parents, Teleicia and Daivy booked a newborn photography session to capture the early, precious days of Clay’s life. Their experience far exceeded their expectations. “We knew we wanted to capture the special moments of our first child being so little, but we were nervous about getting good shots,” says Teleicia. “The photos turned out beautifully! We can’t wait to display them in our home and respective offices.”
Teleicia admits that she and Daivy worried that Clay would be too fussy and that they would not get the iconic newborn shots they were hoping for. They tried to keep Clay awake prior to the session but Clay had other plans – he was wide awake for the first half of the photo shoot. Patience during Clay’s wide-awake moments made both Clay and the new parents feel comfortable while capturing amazing shots.
When asked for her advice to someone getting newborn photographs taken, Teleicia says:
“JUST DO IT! I have friends who did not get newborn photos and I know they now regret it. There is something so special about capturing those new moments.”
If you are considering having newborn portraits done after your child is born, consider these tips for booking your appointment:
- Book during your second trimester.
- Try to get an appointment during your infants first two weeks of life – this is when they tend to be most sleepy and curly.
- Expect to reserve three hours for the session.
As little Clay continues to grow and develop, Teleicia and Daivy will always have precious memories of his first few days of life captured wonderfully in beautiful photographs. Consider taking the time to capture this brief and heartwarming time if your baby’s life.
